Limestone (Construction stone)

1. Composition:
  • Chemical formula: CaCO3
  • Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the form of the mineral calcite. Limestone is a substance which rarely occurs naturally in a pure state, being always combined with some other impurities such as silica, magma, clay, mud, sand, bitumen and so on, giving it a range of colors from ash gray, yellow, deep pink and black.

3. Application:
  • Limestone  have higher intensity due to its silicon content, but it’s also brittle and stiff. Dolomitic limestone has better mechanical features.  Limestone containing over 3% clay is less waterproof. Despite being weaker than granite, limestone is easier to mined and processed and  more commonly used;
  • Limestone is main raw material in lime and cement production in construction industry;
  • Limestone is commonly used as aggregate for concrete, to pave automobile way, and  railroads, and in general irrigation works as well as in cladding, paving  and other structural component production s;
  • Limestone is often used in the steel industry;
  • Ceramic tile adhesives usually contain 70 – 80% limestone;
  • Meanwhile, limestone is also one of the important raw materials in the production of light powder and basic chemical components of soda:
  • Light powder is used in many industries such as paper, rubber, plastic, Styrofoam, toothpaste, cosmetics, paint, medicine, etc.
  • Soda is one of the essential basic chemicals in the national economy and is used in many industries such as  washing powder, liquid glass, nonferrous metals, textiles, artificial cotton production, etc.
